The tailgate on Wednesday, Oct. 4, paired with the Middle School cross-country meet, was a great success. The tailgate ran from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. This was the first time in recent history this cross-country meet had been held at Dawson. The athletic committee set up the tailgate. The athletic committee is just getting up on its feet, but they’ve already done plenty for the community, such as setting up the two tailgates. The tailgate brings out community, making success in sports much easier and more fulfilling.
The Dawson Middle School cross-country team was the champion for both the girls’ and boys’ teams. The Dawson High School cross-country team helped out with the race, directing traffic and supporting the middle school runners. It was great to bring the High School and Middle Schools together.
The tailgate had food for the runners and the watchers, including hamburgers, hot dogs, and chips. This great community event brings out many students and families and could bring out many more. The tailgate was considered a success. Since this was the second tailgate, everything ran smoothly. The parents on the athletic committee said that “the food went out much faster this time.”
