Sadly, at the end of this semester, Mr. Marshall will be leaving Dawson and taking on a new job at CU Boulder. Having been at Dawson since 2018 around the time some of his other colleagues began working here, Mr. Marshall said they liked to joke that “they were part of the class of 2018.”
Mr. Marshall will begin his work at the university where he graduated from: CU Boulder. His new job will be an academic coach for students who don’t know what they want to do after college. He will work with first-year students and transfer students, helping them with what they might want to do after college and coaching them through what classes they should take to prepare for life after college.
Not only will Mr. Marshall work with students on classes and their life plans, but he will also be helping students with getting to class and the overall college lifestyle that the students have to adapt to, making sure that the students don’t feel alone, as they are one of the thousands of students in their class. College is a big adjustment for students, so it is crucial to help them acclimate to the new way of life they will be living for the next few years. He will also help with the overall success of a college campus, assisting the students in whatever way he can while still sprinkling in as much AP US history as he possibly can.
Mr. Marshall has had many highlights over his years at Dawson. When asked, the first highlight that came to mind for him was the Senior backpacking trip. Another highlight of his years at Dawson was the weeks before the AP tests, saying preparing for the AP tests was “like prepping for a big game.” Many study sessions with food and plenty of AP United States history would exist, bringing many great memories for Mr. Marshall.
One great part of Dawson for Mr. Marshall was bringing what was currently happening in the world into his classes. For example, state or national elections gave him something to discuss in his AP United States history class. The Winter Carnival was also a highlight for Mr. Marshall, as it’s an event that brings all the fun. However, one of the most meaningful highlights of Mr. Marshall’s years at Dawson was his excellent colleagues with whom he got to work with. In his seven years at Dawson, Mr. Marshall has made memories with his current and past students, his colleagues, and others he encountered throughout the day. He brings his amazing attitude and passion for AP US history everywhere he goes.
Students are having mixed feelings about the news of Mr. Marshall’s departure. He will explore new opportunities, but students still like him so much, Junior Sterling Hurst reacted saying “Why does he have to pursue better prospects in his life?”. While Mr. Marshall will be missed, students still wish him the best in what he has yet to accomplish.
