It was a dark and stormy Friday night, when many upper school students joined together for Dawson’s annual spooky season event: I scream and Ice cream.
To kick off the night, the students filed into the arts center, decorated with newly placed halloween decor, and filled with the aroma of fresh ice cream, loads of toppings, and freshly baked pizza. The energy was quite refreshing, which I noticed was quite energetic, contrary to the gloominess this morning.
The pizza was incredible, and the ice cream was very good. Although I didn’t get many toppings, you could tell from student’s expressions that they were enjoying the bucket loads of candy and chocolate atop their frozen treats.
Afterwards, the upper schoolers entered the auditorium, and then the real fun began. We got into our seats and spooky music was playing in the background, and the projector screen up-front was backlit by an ominous red light. After an impromptu dance session, the lights dimmed and the main event started: a showing of The Ring.
The audience was very lively throughout the film, offering comedic relief during tense moments in the film, and screaming (loudly) during the jumpscare, and the crowd really made the event memorable. I think it was a great choice for the movie that night and I really hope that next year it will be as scary, or scarier…
Overall, I scream and Ice cream was a night to remember, and without Kenna Scherr (26’) and the staff that helped with heavy lifting, decorating, and chaperoning, this wonderful event wouldn’t have been possible. A huge thanks to them, and to everyone for coming. See you next year!
