Freshmen Marlo Scherr, Gabby Green, and Erin Ashby earned rare spots on the varsity girls’ team earlier this month.
Captain Bella Ward noted the rarity of a freshman making varsity and how three of them making it was even more extraordinary. Their selection is a testament to their raw talent and potential as freshmen.
At first, Ward was worried they would have a hard time bonding with the team, but thanks to team dinners and group lunches on game days, they are now a tight-knit group. Ward was skeptical at first about the success of the team because of how many seniors had left the year prior. She quickly discovered that the freshman had a lot of potential to bring to the courts.
The team has opened the season with a winning record of (2,1) only within the first month of practice and training.
Varsity freshman Marlo Scherr said, “I think our team is capable of a lot, and if we all come together as a team and work together, we could be a really good contender.”
Now with higher expectations, Bella believes they are already doing very well, considering they are new to the team and haven’t had much practice. With some fine-tuning and more practice, there are high hopes for the underclassmen for years to come.
