Make Our School Safe club otherwise known as MOSS hosted a bake sale this Tuesday, November 5th, to showcase democracy this Election Day. MOSS raised over $200, for Colorado Ceasefire pushing for anti-gun violence laws to be put in place in Colorado. MOSS is an organization based in Florida that pushes for Alyssa’s Law which makes it mandatory for all public schools to have discreet panic alarms that cause first responders to arrive quicker in the case of an emergency. Dawson’s MOSS club is the first one in Colorado. At the bake sale, MOSS sold various baked goods such as cake pops, cookies, cupcakes, and much more. When asked about why the bake sale is focused around election day, Vice President, Chloe Sebek 25′ states “The purpose of the MOSS bake sale on Election Day – is to remind people of the significance of Election Day and pushing people to go out to vote or have conversations in their homes about our current events.” Leader of MOSS Jake Levy 25′ adds “A key part of our club is public voice and really being able to speak out – as teenagers on political activism for bipartisanship and bipartisan movement in different sovereigns.” MOSS club is not politically affiliated and is mostly just trying to push out the message of the significance of voting. When asked why a bake sale is important to combine with conversations about civic engagement, secretary of MOSS Shan Amin states, “Bake sales can bring this to a personal level while remaining casual.” He also states, “[voting] impacts us as a club because we rely on voters to get school safety legislation into law.”
