The Dawson soccer team fell in their first playoff game this past Saturday in a 2-3 nail-biter. The team took an early lead off of a free kick goal scored by Finn Almond ’27 to put them up 1-0 at the half.
The second half marked a fast decline as the visiting Fountain Valley school scored three successive goals to bring the score to 1-3. There was some controversy on the third Fountain Valley goal, as it appeared the Fountain Valley player was offside. Senior Captain Charlie Martin scored a goal in the ending minutes of the game to bring the Mustangs within one, however, with the game ending 2-3, it wasn’t quite enough.
The atmosphere was electric as Dawson students and faculty filled the stands to support the team. On a bright note parents fired up the grill and were selling burgers and hot dogs to further the excitement. This year’s team was the best boys soccer team Dawson has seen in 5 years led by top goal scorer in the state Charlie Martin. Junior Shelton Johnson who will be one of the captains next year is looking ahead. “It was a great year, we had a lot of fun. We thank our seniors and are sad to lose them. Hopefully we can continue our success this year into next year and make a playoff run”.
Soccer marks the last of the fall sports at Dawson. We are a little under a month away until Boys and Girls basketball face off against Rocky Mountain Lutheran in their first game.
