The Pony Puff game was a huge success following Dawson Fest. Fans, players, and coaches all had a blast. There were three games: a senior-junior game, a freshman-sophomore game, and a final senior-freshman game. There was also plenty of fun entertainment outside of football.
Game attendee Graham Halverson (25′) says his favorite part of the game was “the commentary from Theo Mele (25′)”. Theo was cracking jokes and commenting on plays into a microphone throughout the games.
Additionally, fans enjoyed an epic halftime show featuring the song “HOTTOGO!”, where the cheerleaders invited fans to come up and dance with them at the end.As for the games, The senior-junior game was close, with a 13-6 win for the seniors. Their next opponent was the freshman team, who the seniors crushed 32-6. Senior player Madison Dodge (25′) says of their victory, ” would say that we had really strong players, and overall a lot of athleticism on our team.” Many of the senior players play sports regularly, such as Kanoe Ledford (25′), who scored the final touchdown in the last few seconds of the game.
The coaching was also a large part of the victory: Coach Dawson Kusel (25′) says, “We kept pushing.” The coaches organized regular practices, wrote and taught plays, and supported the team. However, there were some flaws in the team; Quarterback Rodas Tewelde (25′) mentions that, “We could have practiced more, it would have just made it more fun and a better outcome.” Madison Dodge also mentions how Coach Shan Amin (25′) was a bit “frazzled” during the game.
With or without these flaws, it was a huge victory for the seniors and a great game to watch. Altogether, it was a game that will live in infamy in the Dawson history books.
