The chess club recently requested funding for new chess boards and clocks for the upcoming tournament. As Canon Montgomery (26′), Co-VP explains, “This is our biggest tournament yet. Without enough boards and clocks the club will be unable to properly run the tournament, dragging it on exponentially.” This request of about $100-150 hasn’t yet been met by the school, with Aiden FLores (25′), our Executive Council Treasurer stating that: “I can’t give people a guaranteed answer whether their needs will be met since a lot of planning is going on regarding upcoming events.” Clubs like the GSA have pre-allocated up to $300, funds the GSA were unaware even existed. Ms. Hand ensures that all GSA funds are raised themselves. Regardless, $300 is out of the picture for much-needed club funding, money it seems nobody will be able to utilize. The Dawson community must ask what is going on with club budgeting, and will chess club receive their much needed supplies for their largest ever tournament?
