Over the summer, Dawson School faced major disruptions as vandals targeted five school buses, stealing critical parts and potentially up to 100 gallons of gas. Ms. Sheri, Dawson’s head of transportation, confirmed an investigation in collaboration with local Taw enforcement is underway. No further information was provided regarding the investigation or the effects of the damages. Catalytic converters, which convert harmful engine emissions into less harmful gasses, were stolen. Driving without them is illegal in Colorado and could result in large fines of just under $50,000 each day the part isn’t replaced. The stolen catalytic converters are valued at $2,195 each, according-to AutoZone. Under Colorado law, theft of property valued between $2,000 and $5,000 is classified as a class 6 felony, carrying the potential for charges of up to 1.5 years in prison and fines up to $100,000.
