Librarians have made conference rooms reservations only and are close to banning food in the learning commons (LC) because students haven’t been cleaning up after themselves.
Librarians Ms. Delaney and Ms. Grant are always trying to keep the LC a fun space. Daily riddles or rebuses are now a staple part of the atmosphere, and a librarian is always ready and willing to help you with any problems you might have.
Unfortunately, some unruly students have forced the librarians to institute these policies to keep the LC a clean and fun space. Conference rooms have been left in disarray, and copious amounts of food and trash have been left out. Along with the conference room changes, a three-strike system has been implemented for food scraps and trash being left out. The upper school is currently on its second strike and is one more away from losing food privilege in the LC.
A new system is in place where students are required to reserve conference rooms and leave their student IDs as collateral. Students can collect their IDs once a student is finished with their conference room and a librarian is satisfied with its cleanliness. Student President Sawyer Zeldner 25′ said, “Although it’s not ideal, it’s what we have to do to hold our community accountable. We want to keep our shared spaces clean and make sure they are treated well.” Hopefully, this system can be repealed after students have shown they can and will clean up after themselves. Ms Grant said regarding the new reservation system, “We don’t want to do the extra work and inconvenience students, but it’s gotten to the point where it’s necessary.”
Please make the librarians happy and clean up after yourself.
