This past weekend, Winterim results came out to all Dawson students and its reactions have been echoing through the halls. Winterim is a major event for the community with trips this year ranging from local trips like fly-fishing and pizza making, to Hawaiian getaways and national expeditions. Its results bring a mix of excitement, disappointment, shock, and anticipation. Students had varied reactions to their assignments.
Ninth-grader Henry Smith, with #474, was pleased to get his fourth choice – fly-fishing. He stated that, “I’m excited to learn and try something new.” Meanwhile, tenth-grader Eli Karp was thrilled to secure his third choice, a college trip to San Francisco, exclaiming “H*** yeah,” highlighting, “I got on a trip with all of my friends despite my low number.”
Senior Sophia Payvar was equally thrilled, having secured her first choice despite her relatively high lottery number, #158. She expressed both excitement and optimism for the trip, saying, “I’m surprised I got my first choice, but it’s hard to know how well it will go since there’s still time until Winterim.”
Both Jett and Declan shared their thoughts on the Winterim process. Jett noted, “I’m happy because my friends are also on it, but you have to wait until senior year for the good trips – it’s slightly unfair.” Declan, meanwhile, appreciated the organization and praised Ms. Scheer’s efforts, saying she’s doing a “very good job of organizing everything.” In the end, this year’s Winterim selection has been a time of excitement.
