In the past few weeks, Dawson has celebrated our Seniors’ accomplishments and personal growth on the Soccer and Volleyball teams.
A long-lasting tradition in high school sports is honoring seniors in their last home regular season game. On October 25th, Dawson honored our seniors after their last regular season home soccer game. The seniors honored were Sawyer Zeldner, Jacob Bell, Theo Mele, Aiden Flores, Aayan Tamton, Charlie Long, and Charlie Martin. The soccer team played against Estes Park. Dawson took home a 12-0 victory over Estes Park. “We were able to get every senior a goal within the first 30 minutes of the game,” said Senior captain Sawyer Zeldner. He said that “the game was so great because we had the freedom to play as we wanted thanks to the quality of the team we had this season.”
After the half-long game, the soccer team gathered to congratulate the seniors. Each student who was not a senior said something about the seniors. It was very “heartwarming” to hear all the underclassmen speak and get a brief reminder of his childhood soccer experience with the orange slices he got after the game. Zeldner wished to give “a special thank you to whoever put Senior Night together” and the team, as it was “the best team l’ve ever played on.” A highlight of Zeldner’s year was winning every, and he means every one of the games they played during practice, whether it was the world cup, 50/50 races, soccer-tennis, or soccer-cornhole. On October 14th, Dawson honored our seniors after their last regular season home volleyball game.
The seniors honored were Reece Giffels, Clara Hilliard, Maya Kish, and Chloe Sebek. The volleyball team played Campion Academy. Dawson took home the 3-1 victory over Campion. Senior Captain Chloe Sebek said playing her last home game after four years of varsity was “bittersweet.” Chloe would like to thank Bella Ward for “the hard work she put in making senior night special” along with Kenna for singing the national anthem and for the students packing the stands. The highlight of Chloe’s year was serving 21 points in a row in the first game of the season.
