Dr. Engstrand sent out an email to all French students and families on October 5th that explained why she could no longer continue teaching at Dawson.
Her email detailed how she “was offered an unexpected professional opportunity to run the France-Stanford Center for Interdisciplinary Research at Stanford University”, meaning she will be moving to San Francisco Bay Area this fall and can no longer be a French teacher here at Dawson.
Dr. Engstrand says that it “has been a very difficult decision” because she truly “loves teaching French at Dawson and getting to know such wonderful students and supportive families.”
She continued in her email, saying that, “it has been a true privilege to learn and grow with you, and I’m so grateful for the warm welcome you’ve given me.”
There’s no denying that she was a great teacher during her time here at Dawson. One of her students in French 3, Owen Harsh (‘27), shared how “her class is always an enjoyable experience” and that “I think I learn French more effectively with how personable Madame is”.
Another student in French 4, Grady Despard, commented that even though he may miss Dr. Engstrand, he still wants to “wish her the best in anything she pursues in the future”.
Dr. Engstrand concluded her email saying that she is “committed to helping make this transition as smooth as possible and to ensuring that your progress in French keeps moving forward.”
On behalf of the French students learning under Dr. Engstrand, Grady would like to conclude by saying “we love you Madame!”
