From November 2025 through January 2026, the lack of snowfall is breaking records for the least amount of snow ever in Colorado making some students at Dawson worried about the future of Colorado’s snowy reputation.
A lot of students are worried about the lack of snow. Finn Rollins (27), a student at Dawson, said, “It makes me sad to see the lack of snow this year, because I want to ski, but I haven’t felt like I need to go up, and I don’t think I will be able to go up and have fun like it was last year.” This is something that a lot of students are saying, but the good news is that it’s most likely that the snow season will get better. In 2021, for example, Denver didn’t see any snow until Dec. 10, which is the latest record ever. So let’s not keep our heads down because there is a big chance we will get some snow to come.
But this doesn’t mean that everything will be okay. Recently, Vail Mountain has had 20% fewer skiers than last year. This is happening because so many people are cancelling their trips because of the lack of snow.
More specifically, the amount of snowfall is 50% less than the past 30 years of snowfall, which is causing many people to cancel their trips to Vail and other big mountains in Colorado.
While many students are sad about the lack of snowfall this year in Colorado, there is also a group of students who aren’t too sad at all. A student, Darren Sebak, said, “I’m sad for the people who really like to ski, but I’m also happy because I can play more baseball outside and not be cold.” While the heat might seem like it’s a horrible thing, the warmer weather has been very nice for doing other outdoor activities like baseball. But, as said before, it’s possible that Colorado will get some more snow. Statistics show that the most snowfall in Colorado occurs in March and April.
A writer for the Vail Daily stated, “For Colorado to end the winter with a normal amount of snowpack, the state needs about 145% of normal snow accumulation. which is a pretty huge number. So most likely the state will not get to the normal amount of snowpack this year.
